21 Rituals for Saturn’s Hardest Years
Sound familiar?
An astrologer warns you, and suddenly every setback feels like proof.
Work slows, money is tight, and you don’t know what you can actually do about it.
You’re offered costly pujas and gemstones, and you’re not sure whom to trust.
You want a calm, practical way through, not more fear.
Shani doesn’t punish at random. He rewards what the tradition has always valued: honesty, discipline, humility and service.
How the remedies work
Every remedy in the book rests on one of five traditional supports. Together they turn seven and a half years of worry into a steady, Saturday-by-Saturday practice.
01
The Saturday oil offering, the peepal lamp, and his mantra and hymn.
02
Shani promised not to trouble Hanuman’s devotees. The most loved remedy of all.
03
Cooling the heaviness and steadying the mind, on Mondays and Pradosh.
04
Service and giving: what Shani loves most.
05
Living the qualities Shani rewards, every day. The heart of the book.
शं
“Shani is said to respond to how we live far more than to what we offer. These seven vows are the heart of this book.”
From Ritual 18, Shani’s Seven Vows

Shani Sade Sati
Part one
Who Shani is
Shani is the son of Surya and Chhaya, “the shadow”. He moves slowly, rides a crow and holds a staff.
He is called Karmaphala Data, the giver of the fruits of our actions, and Nyayadhish, the judge.
He does not punish at random. He shows us the results of our own actions, strips away what is false, and rewards honesty, discipline, humility and service.

Ritual 01 · The Saturday foundation
Purpose: Offer mustard or sesame oil to Shani to ease his heaviness.
Best time: Every Saturday, morning or evening.
You will need: A small pot of mustard or sesame oil, a few black sesame seeds, and a blue or black flower if available.
1. Visit a Shani temple or Navagraha shrine. If none is near, use a Shani image or simply a lamp at home.
2. Make your sankalpa silently.
3. Pour the oil slowly over the stone, or offer it beside the image, while chanting the mantra.
4. Offer the black sesame and the flower.
5. Bow, and walk away without looking back, a traditional custom at Shani shrines.
The mantra
ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah
Salutations to Shani, the slow-moving one. Chant 108 times on Saturdays.
That is one of 21. The other 20 are waiting inside, including the Saturday Hanuman Chalisa, the seven vows and the completion ritual.
Your weekly routine
A gentle routine across the week, with Saturday at its heart. Each day pairs a ritual with a life practice, so your Sade Sati years become years of discipline and growth.

Tuesday
The Hanuman Chalisa. Face one task you have been avoiding.
Wednesday to Friday
The Shani prayer once a day. Keep promises, meet deadlines, work steadily.
Saturday
The sesame bath, the oil offering or peepal lamp, the Chalisa, and one act of seva or giving.
Sunday
Offer water to the rising sun. Shani is Surya’s son; honour your father or an elder.

Questions
Can these rituals cancel Sade Sati?
No. Sade Sati is a period, not a punishment that can be cancelled, and you should be wary of anyone who sells a remedy that promises otherwise. These practices bring steadiness, courage and, in the tradition’s understanding, Shani’s mercy. They work alongside the honest, disciplined living he rewards.
Do I need a guru or initiation (diksha)?
No. Every practice in the book is a household ritual traditionally open to sincere beginners. Practices that require initiation, or that aim to control or harm anyone, are deliberately left out.
How do I know if Sade Sati is happening to me?
Part 1 explains how Sade Sati is calculated from your Moon sign and how to check it, with the dates of the three phases. Astrological rules vary between traditions, so if you are unsure, ask a trusted astrologer, but never pay large sums for fear-based remedies.
How much time does it take each day?
The minimum routine is Saturday: the Hanuman Chalisa, a mustard oil lamp and one act of service, about 20 minutes. The full weekly routine adds a few minutes on other days.
Do I need to buy expensive items?
No. Mustard oil, black sesame, a lamp, flowers and simple donations. The book specifically warns against costly pujas, gemstones and “guaranteed” remedies.
What if I miss a Saturday?
Don’t start over. Continue the next Saturday with one extra Hanuman Chalisa. Shani values steady return over perfection.
What language is it in?
Clear, simple English. Every mantra is written in easy-to-read transliteration with a pronunciation guide, so you can chant it with confidence.
How do I get the book after I pay?
Instantly. You'll get a download link on the thank-you page and by email. The PDF works on your phone, tablet or computer, and the tracker pages are ready to print.
